In the 4th Race today at Belmont Park, Jose Ortiz took the saddle of #8 Creed for what would end up being his 2,000th career win in just 8 years of racing. That’s a pretty ridiculous number, and Jose still has sooo much left in his tank. With Saratoga being my home track, I’ve been fortunate enough to spend each summer watching Jose become the jockey he is today, and I this is a phenomenal achievement for him.
Here’s a little replay of Jose’s awesome win today:
Take a look at his career earnings since he started:
Total Earnings: $156,000,000 and counting. Probably Jose’s most notable win came in the 2017 Belmont Stakes, when he led Pletcher trained Tapwrit (6-1) to victory in the third leg of the Triple Crown.
Jose was appreciative of the love and support he received, and even went to twitter a couple races after and posted this gem:
Congrats, Jose! Big time milestone and will only continue to get bigger. The question is…will he ever be able to catch up to his big brother Irad though?!
